Infantry grenadier, Prussia 1745
The invention of the grenade brought a requirement for specialists in its use. In 1667 elite infantry companies appeared, formed by skilled soldiers selected for their courage, who would be known as grenadiers were armed with musket, bayonet, sword and grenades.
Being an elite corps the uniform was distinguished by its appearance. The Infantry Grenadiers were capable of sowing terror on the battlefield with their grenades.
Frederick II formed a battalion of grenadiers, including men who were tall, strong and skilled in the launching of grenades. They played a decisive role in the battles of the Wars of Succession and the Seven Years War.
