Compagnie Des Gardes de la Porte, France 1750
The Gatekeepers guarded the gates of the castles and residences where the King was staying.
They did not take part in military action and provided a service from 06.00 to 18.00 when they were relieved by the Scots Guard. Armed with musket and sword, their insignia displayed two crossed keys.
On 30 September 1787 they were dissolved by Louis XVI, returning to service with Louis XVII until finally, in 1815, the corps was definitively dissolved by Napoleon I.
