International Brigades volunteer from the "Commune of Paris Battalion"
The International Brigades were military units composed by foreign volunteers of more than 50 countries that took part in the Spanish Civil War together with the army of the Second Spanish Republic. The majority they were not welded, but workers recruited voluntarily by the communist parties of his respective countries.
In September, 1936, the International Communist (Komintern) approved the proposal of Maurice Thorez (Secretary-General of the French Communist Party) to help the Spanish republican combatants with volunteers of Europe and America, especially communists.
