Edward Lord Despencer
Edward Le Despencer, together with the Black Prince, fought at the Battle of Poitiers, 1356. In 1357 in recognition of his exploits in the war against France he was appointed Baron Despencer by Parliament. In Calais in 1360 he participated in the Treaty of Brétigny, by which England liberated John II in exchange for French territories, among them Aquitaine, during the following years he was part of numerous expeditions in France, Northern Italy and Wales, after the truce of 1374 he returned to England. Edward was regarded by the ladies of the English court as one of the most honorable and courageous knights in all England.
