Sir Richard Fitzsimon (1295-1349)
In 1344 Edward III appointed him under the Earl of Derby. He was Prince Edward´s standard bearer at the battle of Crecy, who put down the banner and drew his sword to stand over the prince when strucks down, shouting "Edward and St George, to the kings son", and when support arrived again raised the banner. Knight of the Garter 1348, Founder Member, Stall 16.
The Battle of Crecy (26 August 1346), was an english victory during the Edwardian phase of the Hundred Years War. It was the first of three faous English successes during the conflict, followed by Poitiers in 1356 and Agincourt in 1415.
