Mehal-la Jalifiana Askari

During the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco, the Mehal-la Jalifiana was created, a regiment-type military unit formed with Moroccan indigenous troops and Spanish officers charged with the protection of the Sultan. This unit was to serve as the basis for the formation of an Army of the Protectorate. It was organized into sections (Yemaas), companies (Mias) and battalions (Tabores). During the Spanish Civil War, each Mehal-la sent two Tabores to the Peninsula that were assigned to different Divisions.
